25 February 2011 Arrogant Butcher Mural

We just finished a mural for Fox Restaurant Concepts new place – The Arrogant Butcher. We were hired to design the mural but when it came to painting it, our client couldn’t find someone to get it done in time for their grand opening. We had never painted a mural before but thought it would be a fun project. We started with printing out all the mural elements on our large format printer, and then cutting stencils for everything. A bunch of spent xacto blades and 7 hours later we had it all cut out. We packed everything up and drove to the Arrogant Butcher in downtown Phoenix. We arrived at 6:30 am and began taping everything off. We painted that base white coat first – brushing it on and then scrubbing away sections. After that we went one stencil at time using the same technique – painting and wiping – until 10 hours later we had it completed. 23 hours from start to finish. not bad.

We had a lot of fun on this project despite the lack of sleep. Partially because our client kept us fed and stocked with soda – and the food is delicious. But also because the restaurant was having their soft-opening that day so we had a lot of customers stopping to watch, ask questions, comment, and take pictures. Normally when you send a piece of work out the door, like an ad, you can only hope it’s well received. But here we were able to get instant feedback from our target audience as well as our client.

This is beautiful. I love the whole design. Did you create a custom font for “The Arrogant Butcher”? If not, what font is this?
